Causes of Vaginal Itchiness
Vaginal itching may be caused by several things:
- Harsh scented soaps
- Medications
- Stress
- Hormones (during your period you may also experience more itchiness)
- Irritating material from clothing
- Sweat
- Humidity
- Diseases or infections
If itching continues, then it is best to consult a physician so that proper assessment may be done.
Do Away with Vaginal Itching
- Changing pads regularly will be able to help. By changing pads and keeping the area dry, you avoid unwanted bacteria, sweat and moisture. Wet pads, if allowed to stay long enough, can cause redness and soreness of the skin. Most pads are wrapped individually so this is pretty convenient to tuck in your handbag or knapsack. Bring an extra pad with you especially during heavy flow days.
- Use only mild unscented soap and feminine wash when washing the area.
- Refrain from scratching. Minor cuts caused by scratching may cause skin infections.
- Choose underwear made of cool material that fits you well. Avoid underwear made of material that is irritating to the skin.
- Waxing or shaving the pubic hair may also irritate the skin of the vulva.
- Protect yourself during sex. Sexually transmitted infections may contribute to vaginal itching.
