Why do some young people live together without marrying each other? Young people are becoming more independent right now. With expanding economies and fast growing technology that are better understood by the younger generation, young people readily get jobs and start earning. For these people, living together makes life easier and seems to be more convenient and practical than getting married and settling down.
Why two is sometimes better than one
- There’s someone to share the bills with. When you live with someone, you get to split the rent and utilities. Life is more convenient and everyday life is less expensive. With the high prices of goods in the market, a steady companion to help you get by is so welcome.
- It beats the loneliness that might come with being single and alone. You will have a companion by your side and you need not worry about coming back to an empty house with no one to talk to.
- No frills and legalities that come with marriage. There is no messy divorce or annulments. No expensive weddings either.
- You need not feel trapped. If the relationship does not work out, you can just pack and go. Except for little things like who gets to keep the cat or the coffeemaker, there is not much fuss.
- You can get to know each other better. It’s like test-driving a car. You want to make sure it feels right and works well before you commit to buying it. This is how some people feel about cohabiting. They may want to try and see if they are compatible with their partners before they get into marriage.
